Free public transport

April 6, 2021 @ 19:30 - 21:00

People need an attractive reason to leave their car at home. In the Netherlands, however, public transport is extremely expensive, while free public transport is a logical step if you are serious about tackling the climate crisis. In this meeting, activists and employees from the public transport sector will elaborate on the issue of transport, which is a pillar of the economy in the Netherlands 🚍

The Netherlands has the most expensive public transport system in Europe. Therefore, it is logical that many people prefer to keep using their car and/or scooter. Especially people with a lower income cannot afford some fancy electric car. They will also be hit hardest if oil prices and taxes are to be increased. However, alternative forms of transportation are feasible; it is just a matter of political will. For example, Luxembourg already has a free public transportation system. This is a concrete and positive way to make people feel that we can stop further escalation of the climate crisis.💪

In this meeting we will discuss the need for a higher frequency of public transport network, the subsidies of the expansion of Maastricht Aachen Airport and will reflect on the current situation with (semi-)privatized companies like NS. So don’t miss this opportunity and join the event!
